A fairly typical November with the climate dominated by a Westerly airflow. A short period of frosts with a little snow in the second half of the month. Rainfall was very low and, while other parts of the UK were suffering serious flooding, rainfall in Glanton was the lowest it has been in November for at least the last ten years.

When compared to the extensive flooding in Southern counties of England during the month, in Northumberland, we experienced slightly less than the average rainfall for September. There were one or two pleasant spells of early autumn weather, especially in the third week of the month.

Certainly no heatwaves in Glanton this July, despite the media hypes concerning record breaking heat. Rainfall was the heaviest in July for at least the last ten years. The weather continues to be erratic and the forecast for August does not generate much hope of a settled spell. We live in hope!

June was a complete reversal of the previous months with a substantial reduction in rainfall to a figure of less than half the average for the month. The widely predicted heatwave never happened and temperatures did not really rise until the third week and then only to a maximum of 25degC for a two-day period.

May continued the current high rainfall trend, especially towards the end of the month resulting in a figure well over twice the average for the month. Despite the very political cry of man-made climate change, there is a major solar maximum approaching it’s zenith; couple this with a massive amount of water vapour resulting from considerable pacific volcanic activity and then El Nino induced weather patterns and you have the perfect natural recipe for climate extremes.

The first three days of April saw rainfall exceed the whole April monthly average, prolonging the record-breaking winter wet spell. The current state of the weather is going to have a far reaching effect on agricultural production in coming months.
